Female Faculty: Beware the Non-Promotable Task

This article in the Chronicle of Higher Education by Linda Babcock, Brenda Peyser, Lise Vesterlund, and Laurie Weingart describes an overload of non-promotable tasks taken on by women faculty can have significant negative effects on a faculty member’s progress since this work rarely enters into performance evaluations or promotion and tenure decisions.

Leaders from the unit level up through central administration must understand that the current distribution of work is both unfair and costly to the institution and that changing it isn’t hard. The article includes nine easy-to-implement strategies to more equitable distribution of NPT.
